Chinese dumpling is one of the most important foods in China Since the shape of Chinese dumplings is similar to ancient Chinese gold or silver ingots, they symbolize wealth.

Chinese rice cake, so-called "Nia Gao," is another traditional food. It contains rice, pork, eight kind of beans and wrapped with big leaves. Traditionally, the members of a family get together to make rice cake during the New Year's Eve.

Moon cakes are eaten on Chinese New Years because the Chinese New Year is based onthe lunar calendar. They are also eaten as part of an autumn, harnest type celebration which falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.
