| Above,
your looking at El Monumento a la Patria, The moument of the Fatherland,
located right in the heart of Merida, Mexico. It is a structure of the
Maya. Made up of hyrogliphs, scripts, symbols and the timeline of Mexican
History. Behind this scene lies The Mayan Arch. These type of Arches
were the entry ways to the governos palace. I had the pleasure to visit
this sacred land on March 21, 2006 for the Spring Equinox Ceremony called
The Chichen-Itza Awakening. It is quite an honor to be part of such
an amazing culture of our Indigenous people.

I
took this photo in Mexico City of the Voladores de Papantla. It is an
Indigenous Danza that calls to the Gods. The dance consists of a group
of 4 Men representing the 4 directions; North, South, West, East. The
Men climb up a pole 30 metes high and tie themselves by the waste to do
a free fall. While airborne each play an instrument that is handcarved.
Each volador goes around the pole 13 times which totals 52 rounds. This
number represents the solar Calendar of the Maya. It also represents the
52 weeks of the year where we come to the fall of an old Empire and the
start of a new one. Also known as the new Sun. |
Sayil, Yucatan is another Mayan Structure. It consists of 3 levels and
98 rooms. The photo behind is the old city of Merida. This city, founded
by don Francisco de Montejo over the ancient Ichanzihó was originally
named Carolina, which was later replaced by Mérida, by the civil
and military powers of the province of Yucatán. |
