ART
101A: Introduction to Digital Media Art
PROJECT 1: Image as Rhetoric
Select two images, one to emphasize truth, one to emphasize beauty.
From these, use Photoshop to transpose an anti-aesthetic image (one
that is neither truthful or beautiful). For each, use text to explicate
your conceptual strategy.
PROJECT 2: Unstable Media
Use Premier to produce a short artwork exploring the unstable perceptions
of contemporary digital media: explore production as a conceptual art
action.
Project 3: Internet Art
Produce a an net.art project that exposes or exploits the formal-structural
nature of the Internet. Other sites and outside links can be appropriated,
infiltrated or incorporated. You may directly code or use any software
applications as needed to realize this project. Consider issues of non-linearity,
the illusion of choice (addressing/reflecting on "Interactivity"), multiple
data streams, formal elements specific to the web, internet or the graphical
user interface (forms, windows, etc.), meta information, commodification
of information access, searching, browsing and parasitic media objects.
