The Crucible by Arthur Miller

The trees were made from 3/4" PVC pipe that was cut into 6 and 8 foot lengths. There were 120 pieces and each was split with a band saw into half, then quarters, then eighths and finally into sixteenths, Halves down to 5 feet. Quarters down to 4 feet and so forth with the sixteenths cut down only 12 to 9 inches.
A costume shop's clothes steamer was hooked up to a 8' long 1 1/4 inch black pipe. Each split plastic pipe was placed in the steam filled pipe for 5 minutes or until pliable. Each in turn was pulled from the steaming pipe and quickly bent into the shape of a branch. The PVC cools very quickly (30 seconds) and retains the new shape. These were added to 4 inch PVC pipes to create sixteen trees, each 16 feet tall. We added no leaves and painted them black.

As You Like It by William Shakespeare

The director chose to place the play in an insane asylum and to have the patients act out the play for the guards. The scenery was adapted from a previous production of Romeo and Juliet. The beds were tipped up on the headboard and were used to indicate all the locations including the Forest of Arden. Lighting helped to provide atmosphere.

Bacchae by Euripides

The grape vines were made from iron rode. A student using a welding torch heated and then twisted the 3/8" rods into organic vine shapes. A six foot rod twisted up until it was only 4 or so feet in length. These segments were arranged to appear to climb the columns and were welded to each other and an internal 1 1/4" pipe that the plastic columns surrounded. Plastic vines from a craft store were added. An actor appeared on the roof of the temple and climbed down the vines to begin the play.

North Train By DiJorn Moss

A "speakeasy" in Harlem, with gangsters and wide eyed young people coming into town from the country.
This was an original TRFT production, written by student Dijorn Moss.
