From the Graduate Coordinator
The SJSU Master of Arts in Theatre addresses an increasing need for highly educated, creative professionals in tv, radio, film and theatrical production. Our emphasis on research and scholarship-based approaches to matters of performance occurs within a dynamic department which is engaged on the cutting edge of multidisciplinary and multicultural approaches to these fields, and with an emphasis on nurturing leaders: directors, writers, producers, and educators.
Masters students in our program develop strong methodological research skills and actively engage in the critical discourse that helps advance our disciplines. The Master's degree will give you enhanced authority, confidence and credibility within an increasingly diverse professional community. The expertise and experience you acquire here will likely serve multiple objectives, some of which you may well discover as you are engaged in and learning from your studies.

Much of our program's focus is on the application of scholarship to teaching and to production, whether on an advanced university level (usually requiring the ultimate attainment of the Ph.D.), or in other academic and management areas where the M.A. degree itself provides entry.

Our program is relatively small with about 40 active graduate students full and part-time. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with your student colleagues and faculty members in their research areas and their distinctive academic identities and professional accomplishments.

Please browse the web site to get a better sense of what the program is all about. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your interest in our unique Master of Arts degree program.
